Desalination and maintenance of Thermal Power Plants (Water-Cooled)
Inner cleansing of rosehip and mussel seeds
Part of the infrastructures of thermal power plants, desalination plants or other industries that take seawater for their production processes must carry out periodic maintenance on the structures that are under the sea, as with the passage of time the populations of mussels and rosehip seeds can cause a decrease in the flow of water entering the plant, blockage of accesses, intakes, etc.
In this type of situation, MMC advises to carry out periodic maintenance that allows for quick action, without the need to invest a lot of time in cleaning the affected marine structures.
It should be borne in mind that depending on the structure on which you want to act, the plant will have to be shut down or not, therefore, the maintenance work is vital to reduce such downtime, if necessary. At MMC we are able to carry out the cleaning work while the plant is in operation, considerably reducing the cleaning costs (depending on the area where the cleaning is to be carried out).
Internal and external inspection of marine intake pipelines (gas, oil and water intake), risers, etc.
The disadvantage of offshore infrastructures is the complexity of inspection and monitoring, and in the case of offshore pipelines, internal and external inspections of the infrastructures may provide different information, but both are necessary. In addition to the inspection of the infrastructures, it is also very important to analyse the state of the seabed, walls, settlement systems, …. on which the infrastructures are supported. Sea currents, strong waves or storms, etc. are aspects that affect the submerged elements.
MMC is able to carry out all types of inspections that allow our clients to have accurate information about the state of the infrastructures, as well as realistic data by virtue of which they can specify precise actions on the submerged elements.
MMC provides its customers with videos and explanatory reports of the inspections carried out.
Internal and external inspection of the area of tank pumps and rotating filter pools, both in desalination plants and thermal plants, by means of robotised and communication systems.
In desalination plants and thermal power plants, the filter areas and the attached tanks are areas that require special monitoring and maintenance. However, these are complex areas for carrying out the necessary inspections or maintenance work, so the availability of modern work equipment and experienced personnel with knowledge of this type of installation is an added advantage when assessing whether to carry out such inspections. MMC has communication equipment to control and monitor the work of the divers, thus increasing the safety of the operation, as well as guaranteeing the inspection of all the necessary areas and aspects. Direct communication between the divers and the ground support team greatly enhances the safety of the operation and the overall execution of the operation.
MMC also has robotic equipment that is used in certain situations and provides images of the state of the infrastructure.
Pipe alignment, cleaning of wells and their components by means of a cavitation system.
In certain situations it is necessary to carry out cleaning work, which can be complex due to the accessibility of the areas to be cleaned, the cleaning equipment available, …
In order to carry out this cleaning work, MMC has machinery based on cavitation systems. Cavitation cleaning does not affect the structure or element to be cleaned, it keeps it in the same state it is in at the time of cleaning, without damaging it. This system generates oxygen bubbles that impact on the elements to be eliminated without damaging the structure.
System for inspection and cleaning of underwater structures
Hypochlorite pipe cleaning and repairs
To prevent underwater installations from being “invaded” by mussels, … uses hypochlorite, which is diluted in the water around these structures to prevent uncontrolled growth of marine life.
MMC can check the condition of the hypochlorite installation and, if necessary, install, repair or renew the system.
Cleaning of tanks and pump room, with plants in operation, without solids in suspension
Cleaning of pump room, with plants in operation, without solids in suspension-. In industrial plants where seawater is used for industrial processes, there are areas where sand and other elements are decanted, which together with seawater are extracted from the sea.
Over time, these spaces, or pitchers, fill up with sand and other debris that reduces the capacity of the pitchers, making it necessary to clean them.
The stoppage of an industrial plant to carry out such cleaning work entails a large economic cost for the plant management. However, MMC is able to carry out these cleaning tasks without the need to shut down the plant, and furthermore, without generating suspended elements (mainly sand), which in the course of the cleaning process can advance through the installation and cause damage to other areas or zones of the installation.
Hardness and thickness testing of all types of pipes (metallic, GRP, polyethylene, etc.).
In a large part of the installations, the condition of the pipes (metallic, thermoplastic materials,…) can only be assessed by examining their hardness and thickness.
Our technicians carry out hardness and thickness measurements at a large number of points on the pipes to be analysed, thus providing our customers with detailed information on the hardness and thicknesses throughout the length and width of the pipes examined.
This allows the verification of the correct state of the pipes or the detection of specific areas that may require some type of intervention, without the need to make a complete change to an entire pipe line.
MMC has the measurement equipment and experience to carry out these measurement tasks, as well as to present the analysis and conclusions in reports delivered to our clients.
Design of the windows of the intake tower and cleaning of its underwater internal part by means of a cavitation system.
The intake towers are the structure through which seawater is extracted from the sea and then flows through pipes to the plant.
Inside the intake tower, the windows are the point of entry of seawater, and it is the place where elements (grids) are arranged to prevent the entry of debris, marine fauna, etc.
Due to the accumulated experience of MMC’s technical staff, we are able to carry out the design of the intake tower windows, as well as their manufacture and installation, if requested.
In addition, and by means of a cavitation system, which does not damage the structure and elements of the intake tower, MMC cleans the entire intake tower in order to have a tower that perfectly fulfils its functions.
Testing and replacement of sacrificial anodes
In metallic structures submerged in the marine environment, the provision of anodes to prevent oxidation of the metals is essential.
MMC supplies anodes to our customers, as well as taking care of the replacement of new anodes.
Maintenance and replacement of all types of buoys, anchoring systems, etc.
Buoys are placed on the surface of the sea (together with other non-visible elements – chains, shackles, “dead men”, etc.) to identify the positions of certain marine installations. The aim is, on the one hand, to provide rapid access to these offshore installations and, on the other hand, to enable maritime traffic in the area to identify the existence of the installation in question.
By means of inspections (provided on video) of the state of the buoy and its different elements, MMC informs the client of the state of the whole, as well as the best alternatives for the correct state of the entire installation.
MMC can supply all the elements that make up the installation, as well as carry out the installation.
